Claudine Doury is a French photographer, who lives and works mainly in Paris.
After her journalistic studies, she worked as a photo editor for the Gamma agency and Liberation in Paris and for the Contact Press agency in New York. She became a photographer in 1989 and joined the VU’ agency shortly after.
Her works deals with several notions such as memory and transition, focusing on teenagers and travels, which are the main subjects of her works.
In 1999, she received the Leica Oscar Barnack price and the World Press Award for her series « Peuple de Sibérie » – which was followed by the publication of her first monograph at the Editions du Seuil. In 2004, her second book « Artek, un été en Crimée » was published at Editions de la Martinière. She received the same year the Niépce price for her entire body of work.
She then published « Loulan Beauty » at the Editions du Chêne (2007) and « L’Homme Nouveau » – a series that questions male identity – at the Editions Filigranes (2017.
In 2017, she is the laureate for a national order of the French Cultural Minister and she received the same year the Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière – Académie des Beaux-Arts price, in the aim to realize her project « Une Odysée sibérienne ».
Her photographs are regularly exhibit in France and abroad, in the Parc de la Villette (Paris), at the Rencontres d’Arles, in Paris Photo, at the Pavillon Carré de Baudouin (Paris), and at the Villa Perochon (Niort).
Her photographs joined some prestigious private and public collection such as the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, le Fond National d’Art Contemporain, the Artothèque in la Rochelle and la Roche-Sur-Yon, le Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne (Switzerland), the Fond d’Art contemporain in Meyrin (Switzerland), the Museu da Imagen in Braga (Portugal), the Leica Camera and Agnes B collection etc…
